There’s time for one last bowl of bacon-flecked New England clam chowder. A grilled fresh fish filet. Or beer-battered fish and chips.

Lafayette’s Yankee Pier seafood restaurant will close for good after dinner service Tuesday.

“It wasn’t about quality and service,” manager Steve Sarrell said Monday afternoon. “It was about sales and rent.

“It’s very sad.”

The restaurant is owned by the Moana Restaurant Group, which previously had closed its Lark Creek restaurant in Walnut Creek. The Lark Creek group originally was launched by Bay Area chef Bradley Ogden.

“We missed our 11-year anniversary by four days,” Sarrell said. “And I’ve been here for all of them.”

The Moana group, which had not responded to queries as of press time, still owns the Piatti restaurants in the Bay Area, including one in Danville, along with a number of other properties.

Yankee Pier, 3593 Mt. Diabo Blvd., will be open for lunch and dinner Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. http://lafayette.yankeepier.com; 925-283-4100.
